starzWe were delighted when Starzèus Hassan-Mcghee joined ASL Global as Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Manager earlier this year, strengthening our commitment to building a more sustainable and equitable business. We caught up with him to see how he's settling in!

Since joining, Starz has been busy implementing a wide range of CRS initiatives around the business. He's responsible for driving ASL's One World initiative forward as we continue on our sustainability journey towards carbon neutrality in 2025. Since joining the team, Starz has been developing a clear set of CRS goals for ASL, and building a collaborative network of colleagues across 52 locations worldwide - all focused on the simple goal to make ASL Global a more sustainable business, and helping our customers and suppliers to do the same.

Starz is already proving to be a huge asset to ASL's senior leadership team as the driving force behind ASL's CRS programme, taking ownership of several key initiatives such as energy & waste tracking, Supplier Sustainability Scorecards, a Plastic Packaging Reduction Programme and many more.

He has many years' experience working & travelling extensively around the world, running a wide range of innovative environmental and social sustainability initiatives.

Starz reflected on his first few weeks with ASL Global "I'm honoured to join the ASL family as Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Manager. It’s a very exciting time to be in the business, there’s lots of innovative and thought-provoking projects in the pipeline which I’m eager to be a part of. I've worked all over the world on sustainability projects, and the global nature of ASL's business is what excites me. There is huge scope for environmental and social improvement initiatives within our supply chain, and working with major brand clients means we can make a real difference to their impact on local communities as well".

For over 12 years, Starz has designed & implemented innovative sustainable development projects in some of the most marginalised communities in countries including Somalia, Kenya, Jordan, Sudan, Palestine, Djibouti, Yemen, Mali, Chad & Niger. He also worked with Monsoon Accessorize, developing the “feel-good” sustainability range, supporting home workers and cooperatives in developing countries.

Alec Pettigrew, ASL's Chairman, commented on Starz joining the ASL team "We're delighted that Starz has agreed to join us on our journey towards sustainability. He's already made a big impact, bringing his experience and a fresh perspective to our environmental & social activities. There is huge scope within ASL to help our customers reduce their negative impact on the environment and build more equitable supply chains, and we're excited to see Starz bring those ideas to life."

He continued "It's easy to talk about sustainability and making a difference, but we're committed to delivering tangible change which has a positive effect on real people. Essentially, that's what the One World initiative is all about, helping the local communities in which we operate, flourish in a sustainable way".
