Earlier this month, ASL Global was invited as a guest speaker, alongside leading sustainability rating provider EcoVadis, at this year’s Mars Premia Supplier Workshop, held in Mars’ China HQ in Shanghai.

This annual event brings together over 40 delegates from different Mars BU teams as well as representatives from their premia suppliers and Eco Vadis, a leading provider of business sustainability ratings, intelligence and collaborative performance improvement tools for global supply chains.

Lee Wai Hoong, ASL’s Chief Quality and Compliance Officer, spoke in detail about ASL’s own approach to sustainability and, in particular, about the importance of Mars’ ‘Next Generation’ Supplier Program. He emphasized the value of ensuring any CSR initiatives are in line with this important program, in order to fully support Mars’ own efforts to develop a sustainable supply chain.

Lee Wai Hoong commented on the event “As an EcoVadis Advanced Gold Supplier, ASL is in the top 1% of companies in our category. Today we shared our experiences of working with EcoVadis over the past five years, and the importance of truly embracing a journey towards sustainability which, for us, has delivered continual improvement year on year in terms of our EcoVadis rating”.

He continued “It’s very important for Mars to develop a new generation of sustainable suppliers who are fully aligned to this Next Generation program. Our goal today was to help equip other suppliers with some basic know-how in creating their own sustainability strategy, engaging successfully with EcoVadis and remaining aligned to Mars’ program”.

Mars is partnering with EcoVadis to roll out their ‘Next Generation’ Supplier Program. Monica Mantenuto from EcoVadis commented on the Workshop “It was so valuable to hear ASL’s perspective and experience with Eco Vadis over the past few years. The messages they delivered were powerful and I’m sure they have helped suppliers in attendance to understand the importance of embarking on a sustainability journey, as ASL has”.

Roland Qin, Mars’ Global Manager for Next Generation Supplier of Sustainability, also commented on the day “ASL’s contribution was valuable and well-received by the suppliers in attendance. As a valued Mars supplier committed to a program of positive sustainability, ASL was perfectly placed to share their experiences with other suppliers to help formulate their approach to CSR”.

He continued “We’re also looking for the leverage provided by ASL, to better manage our supply chain via the new management system approach from EcoVadis. I’m confident this open collaboration helps to build a more transparent and sustainable supply chain for Mars”.
