Last week, our Australian team headed four hours north of Sydney to the community of Wingham, which has been badly affected by the ongoing wildfires devastating huge parts of Australia.

Our team spent several days working in 46-degree heat to help re-build vital fencing destroyed by the wildfires. Not all the team are seasoned campers and during this time they endured pretty rustic conditions, including camping out and extremely limited water supplies. But they rose to the challenge and made it a very successful trip.

Nick Cadigan, ASL’s Account Director in Australia, commented on the trip “We arrived on Wednesday night and set up our tent/swags in the dark. The next morning, we got straight to work. To describe the conditions as hot, dusty & dry is an understatement. We were limited to 3-minute showers due to severe water shortages and working in 46 degree is not easy”.

He continued “It was incredibly hot so we could only work for short periods at a time, but overall, we managed to re-build over 500 metres of fence line between us. It was a challenging experience, but great to be part of such a committed team - we’re just glad to help people who live in these rural communities who have suffered so much”.

The team is now back in Sydney but hoping to plan another trip to continue their work supporting local communities in the very near future.

Well done team, everyone at ASL is very proud of your hard work, bravery and commitment. And you have all added ‘paddock fencing’ to your skill set, which not everyone can boast!

The team is helping the charity Blazeaid, a volunteer-based organisation that works with families and individuals in rural Australia after natural disasters such as fires and floods. You can donate to Blazeaid here.
