This week, ASL joined other sustainability champions attending the largest ever  UN convening of global business leaders.

On the 15th - 16th of June the United Nations held the virtual Global Compact Leaders summit. Under the theme of "Recover Better, Recover Stronger, Recover Together", this 26 hour event brought together thousands of leaders from business, government, civil society and academia, who discussed how economies and societies can recover better and stronger from the three global crises- health, inequality and climate. Diverse conversations were held about inclusivity, growth and sustainability.UNgoals2

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. These goals are a blueprint that can help achieve a better and more sustainable future for everyone. The 17 goals are interconnected and together with their 169 targets form the 2030 Agenda which recognizes ‘that eradicating the poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the greatest global challenge and indispensable requirement for sustainable development’. These goals are universal and apply to every country.

ASL Global has been a proud signatory of UN’s Global compact since 2017 and has been publishing yearly its Communication on Progress report, which shows how the ten Global Compact principles have been implemented by the company. ASL's 2020 COP was recently published and underlines our commitment to the UN Global Compact initiative.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals are an integral part of our One World Strategy. As a company we are aware of the environmental and social impacts of our operations, and we are determined to use our resources to support sustainable development on a global scale.

We joined the UN Global Leaders summit and were honoured to be part of so many important conversations. On our way to recovery from COVID-19 as a global society we feel it is important to carry on forward in an environmentally and socially responsible way, and support all forms of sustainability.

Look out for a longer blog which summarises our key takeaways from the two day Summit which will be posted soon!
